The boutique Hawke’s Bay winery, Crossroads has continued its Syrah success claiming the Champion Syrah and Alan Limmer Trophy at the Romeo Bragato Wine Awards, for their new release Talisman Syrah 2013.
Crossroads has become particularly well known for the quality of its Syrah in recent years, claiming trophies at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards and International Wine Challenge; including the trophy for New Zealand’s Best Red Wine in 2014, for the Crossroads Winemakers Collection Syrah 2012.
Crossroads Winemaker, Miles Dinneen (pictured below) was thrilled with the result from New Zealand’s leading viticultural focused wine awards, which take place as part of the annual Romeo Bragato conference.
He said: “It’s an outstanding result for our new release Talisman Syrah, the team are delighted” says Dinneen.
“This wine has been very much a labour of love and to be awarded a Trophy at the first competition to judge this wine is really exciting!”
For more than 20 years, Crossroads has represented the finest in small parcel winemaking, and the best of the best is Talisman. The Talisman Syrah has been just released as a counterpart to the Talisman red blend, representing the exceptional quality of each varietal found within the Talisman range of wines.
“Early on in the growing season, we identified several exceptional parcels of fruit on our Elms Vineyard, in the Gimblett Gravels subregion. Following the contours of the vineyard, we hand selected the fruit which would go into making this special wine. 2013 was one of the greatest vintages on record in Hawke’s Bay,
so within the winery the strategy was very much about allowing the fruit to express itself naturally, with minimal intervention”, says Dinneen.
The limited release Crossroads Talisman Syrah 2013 has a recommended retail price of $45 and is available exclusively through the cellar door.
