Esk Valley Estate was awarded the Trophy for the Champion Sweet Wine at the recent Hawke’s Bay A&P Wine Awards. This Trophy is sponsored by Hurford Parker Insurance Brokers. These awards are the oldest, regional wine competition in the country and celebrate Hawke’s Bay as a premium wine growing region.
The winning wine was Esk Valley’s Hawkes Bay Late Harvest Chenin Blanc 2013.
This luscious sweet wine made from the little planted Chenin Blanc varietal was the only Gold Medal in the class and highlighted the excellent 2013 vintage.
Esk Valley Senior Winemaker Gordon Russell says “Esk Valley has been the leading Hawkes Bay producer of Chenin Blanc for over two decades and the 2013 vintage was a unique opportunity to showcase the versatility of this famous French varietal. Not only did we make excellent dry style Chenin Blanc, we also had the opportunity to produce a rare sweet wine of incredible quality. It was the icing on the cake.
