Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern today clarified information surrounding Alert Level 3 for when the Government chooses to move the country from the highest isolation level.
“Level 3 moves from essential operations only, to safe operations only,” said Ardern in her daily press conference. “We still want to reduce contact with one another.”
“There are some businesses that cannot open in their usual way because it involves far too much contact on too large a scale with members of the public,” she said.
Ardern said that at Alert Level 3, bars, restaurants and cafes will remain closed. However, retail and hospitality businesses can open for delivery and contactless pre-ordered pick up.
“We have consulted with major sectors like hospitality and retail on these changes,” she said.
Ardern and the Government will make a decision on New Zealand’s Alert Level on Monday, April 20.
