After a month of gin judging, the winner of the Gin Jubilee has been crowned.
Each of the regions was fiercely competitive with the overall quality of the drinks being incredibly high.
The winner is Jasper Rae from Apéro with his cocktail named The Left Nutt.
The cocktail comprised of Victor Gin (roasted macadamia infused), East Imperial Old World Tonic Water, Amontillado Sherry and an orange twist garnish.
“[I focused] on retaining the simplicity and ease of a gin and tonic, whilst adding a layer of complexity and refinement,” says Rae.
“What we do at Apéro is offering food and wine that, when combined, elevate the flavours of one another.
“Victor Gin’s Heavy Botanical offers flavours that pair beautifully with macadamia; lemon, lemon myrtle and cardamom.
“I took this opportunity to infuse the flavours of locally sourced roasted macadamia nuts into this herbaceous gin to create a well structured yet complex drink,” he says.
The regional winners were:
Wildcard – Kismet – Death & Taxes (Fords Gin)
Christchurch – Miro – Pancake & Tonic (Four Pillars)
Auckland – Apéro – The Left Nutt (Victor Gin)
Wellington – Hawthorn – Fennel Lane (Hendrick’s)
