Newly-opened Somm on Princes Wharf has launched the first of its cellar door series called “Guest in Residence” – a limited-time offering which will bring some of the country’s finest winery experiences to Auckland’s doorstep.
First up is a showcase of Mt Difficulty wines, a collection of vineyards from the Bannockburn, Gibbston and Bendigo regions, and home of the Roaring Meg label.
On offer during the series are bespoke Mt Difficulty wine flights (try by single vineyard wines, a vertical journey through vintages, or explore Central Otago’s sub-regions) and a set menu created by Somm Executive Chef Gavin Doyle.
For $35 person, enjoy a glass of Roaring Meg and a choice of either market fish crudo, potato, truffle and smoked brie pizza, or confit duck leg with Parisian gnocchi.
Mt Difficulty’s Chief Winemaker, Greg Lane, will also be stopping by for one weekend only to personally host tastings of the varietals and compare rare library vintages.
Guests will hear the backstories of some of Central Otago’s most enjoyed and respected wines straight from the vintner’s mouth, as Greg leads guests in sampling some of his favourite Mt Difficulty drops.
The Somm “Guest in Residence” series with Mt Difficulty runs from 1st August – 17th September 2023, while the cellar door tasting with Greg Lane will be open on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th August between 12pm – 6pm.
