WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) has announced that a record number of graduates have achieved their WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines, including one from New Zealand.
WSET held its annual graduation ceremony and prize reception last week at the Guildhall in London where 695 new graduates were honoured – the highest number since WSET’s first cohort of diploma graduates in 1969.
Graduates from 20 countries worldwide, who studied with 36 different WSET course providers, took part in the hybrid ceremony, which was hosted by WSET’s CEO, Michelle Brampton.
“Successfully completing this demanding and prestigious qualification demonstrates true commitment and is an extraordinary accomplishment,” says Brampton.
“This year’s cohort joins more than 13,000 graduates across the world – a community that will help shape the future of the drinks industry and inspire the next generation of students.”
Nine New Zealanders took part in the graduation ceremony and another, Joey Siu, was named the APAC Winner of the Patrick Sandeman Vintners’ Bursary.
“I am truly honoured to be a recipient of the scholarship, and I want you to know that this will have a significant impact on my life and journey with wine,” says Siu.
“My end goal has always been to become a Master of Wine [and] I also envision having a wine business of my own and being a wine expert or consultant.
“I am inspired to work hard and strive to make meaningful contributions to the wine world.”
