Auckland has dropped from Alert Level 3 to Alert Level 2 from midnight on Wednesday, February 17.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern made the announcement at the 4.30pm press conference on Wednesday, despite two new cases of COVID-19 in the community.
The rest of the country has dropped to Alert Level 1.
Hospitality venues – including bars, pubs and clubs – in Auckland can now reopen but must follow the 3 S rules which are seated, separated and single server.
Hospitality venues throughout the rest of New Zealand will not need to follow the 3 S restrictions.
Ardern said she still encourages New Zealanders to wear masks in public and on public transport.
