The dates for the 2020 Corteva NZ Young Viticulturist of the Year regional and national competitions have been confirmed and will begin in July.
There will be six regional competitions held throughout July and August, followed by the national final in October.
The contestants are tested on a wide range of skills and knowledge – including Pest & Disease, trellising, machinery, nutrition and budgeting – as well as going head-to-head in the Biostart Hortisports race.
The national finalists will also have to complete an AGMARDT research project and give a presentation on it.
“We are really excited the competitions can still go ahead and will appreciate them even more this year,” says Nicky Grandorge, Leadership & Communities Manager at NZ Winegrowers.
The national winner will receive a Hyundai Kona for a year, an Ecotrellis travel grant, a leadership week and an educational trip to Australia with Corteva.
Government guidelines around gatherings will be strictly adhered to at all times.
