DB Breweries has released it’s Sustainability Report 2021, which tracks progress towards its 2030 production objectives.
The objectives include sourcing 100% renewable energy, halving their plastic footprint, and balancing 100% of the water volume consumed in production.
“In 2021 we made some great progress towards our sustainability ambitions, despite a disrupted year,” says DB Managing Director, Matt Wilson.
“Now, more than ever, it is time for businesses to step up and lead the way and transition to a low carbon future.”
In 2021 we made some great progress towards our sustainability ambitions, despite a disrupted year. Now, more than ever, it is time for businesses to step up and lead the way and transition to a low carbon future.
Wilson says as members of the Sustainable Business Council and the Climate Leaders Coalition, DB is helping to create a greener, carbon-free New Zealand.
“We delivered on some major carbon reduction projects at DB in 2021, including the switch to biomass-derived steam at our DB Draught Brewery in Timaru, the replacement of LPG-powered forklifts with a fully electric fleet, and our on-road Sales fleet continuing to transition away from combustion engines to hybrids.
“We now continue our journey to find renewable alternatives for steam supply to our Waitematā Brewery to be net zero in production emissions by 2030, and carbon neutral in our full supply chain by 2040.”
Highlights of DB’s 2021 Sustainability Report include:
- A 35% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions from their 2018 baseline.
- Being Toitū Enviromark Diamond accreditation for the second year in a row.
- 96% of DB’s spend went to local suppliers.
- Nearly $365,000 was contributed to local community partnerships, sponsorships, and education.
- The company maintained a 0% gender pay gap.
DB says sustainability is integrated into its everyday operations, guided by six sustainability pillars focusing on our people, communities, and its responsibility as an alcohol producer, along with carbon, water and our value chain.
