Celebrating its 20th year, the New World Wine Awards are recognised within the New Zealand liquor industry for pairing international wine show standards with a retail platform that sees the top wines enjoy a measurable lift in sales as a direct result of winning medals.
With the goal to find the very best wines that are also affordable and accessible for shoppers, the awards focus on wines that retail for $25 or less.
The Top 50 Gold medal-winning wines will be rewarded with distribution through 140 New World stores across the country.
The minimum volume requirement for popular varietals is 4,000 bottles to enable a wide spread of styles and producers to enter.
To open the opportunity for more niche varietal producers and encourage consumer trial of lesser-known varieties the minimum volume requirement for emerging varietals has been reduced to 1,600 bottles, with specific classes to give these wines additional focus.
Zero-alcohol wines are also encouraged to enter.
Entries close on Friday, 8 July and will this year be submitted via the RNA online platform.
Full details are available at www.newworld.co.nz/topwines or contact the competition director at nwwa@foodstuffs.co.nz.
Judging is scheduled for August in Blenheim, where the independent panel will be overseen by Co-Chairs Sam Kim and Jen Parr.
