Taupo MP Louise Upston has been appointed the new Minister for Tourism & Hospitality, and Deputy Leader of the House, following the Government’s Cabinet reshuffle announced on January 19.
Both the Restaurant Association and Hospitality New Zealand paid tribute to the achievements of New Zealand’s first Minister for Tourism & Hospitality, Matt Doocey, acknowledging his work on the portfolio and the Hospitality Summit held at Parliament in December last year.
Steve Armitage, Hospitality NZ Chief Executive said Minister Doocey had done a great job of bringing attention to the important role hospitality plays in communities across New Zealand.
“His leadership has created real momentum for our industry. We particularly acknowledge his work on the Summit where important steps were taken to address challenges and unlock new opportunities for growth. His efforts have laid a strong foundation for the future.”
The Restaurant Association also thanked Minister Doocey for his efforts to establish the portfolio last year, playing a pivotal role in bringing the hospitality sector, worth $14 billion to the national economy, to the forefront of policymaker’s minds.
“We look forward to progressing the priorities and actions identified at the inaugural Summit with Louise Upston, to support our industry in addressing the challenges we are facing and taking up the opportunities before us,” said Marisa Bidois, Restaurant Association of New Zealand CEO.
Armitage said the hospitality sector looked forward to partnering with Minister Upston to deliver tangible outcomes that benefit both industry participants and the communities they serve.
“The hospitality industry is a cornerstone of local economies and social connection and we look forward to working closely with the incoming Minister to champion its future growth and success.”
