Bona fide beer expert and Dutch global draught master, Franck Evers, is in Auckland this week to critique how Kiwi bartenders stack up against their global counterparts at the New Zealand Heineken Star Serve Bartender Finals.
Amsterdam-based Evers believes there is a science behind the ‘perfect serve’ and the way beer is poured dramatically affects the taste. Over a 14-year period, the former psychiatric nurse has developed a 90-page manual on pouring the perfect draught beer and travels the globe teaching bartenders the science behind the perfect serve.
At the New Zealand Heineken Star Serve Nationals at Auckland’s Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen, Franck critiqued six finalists alongside former rugby league player and boxer Monty Betham. The bartenders from throughout the country went head-to-head to pour the perfect glass of Heineken for the title of NZ’s Top Heineken Bartender.
The winner will travel to Amsterdam later this year to represent New Zealand at the Global competition.
