July 25 is International Mezcalita Day!

On July 25th, mezcal enthusiasts and cocktail creators around the world come together to celebrate International Mezcalita Day – celebrating the Goddess of agave Mayahuel and her Elixir of the Gods – Mezcal.

What is a Mezcalita?

A twist on a Margarita, a Mezcalita cocktail typically includes mezcal, lime juice, orange juice, and agave syrup, often garnished with a chilli-salt rim.

Smoky, sweet, and tangy, the Mezcalita highlights the earthy notes of mezcal, a traditional Mexican distilled spirit made from agave.

While Tequila is made exclusively from the blue agave in designated regions, mezcal can be made from various types of agave, primarily in Oaxaca.

How to celebrate International Mezcalita Day

International Mezcalita Day is a pretty new addition to the annual calendar of spirit celebrations, but it has quickly become popular with consumers and mixologists alike. Here’s how you can celebrate it at your on-premise venue…

Mixology workshops and tastings

Host a special event featuring Mezcalita cocktails. Use your expert mixologists to showcase their unique takes on the classic recipe, offering tasting flights and mixology demonstrations.

If you have different mezcals on your beverage list, allow your costumers to a flight so they can appreciate the nuances in flavour profiles.

Mixology workshops are also a fun event where participants can learn how to craft the perfect Mezcalita and experiment with creative variations of the cocktail.

Social media campaigns

Participate in online celebrations by sharing your Mezcalita creations on social media using the hashtag #MezcalitaDay and #MezcalMoments. Connect with fellow bartenders/owners and discover new recipes and mixology tips.

Virtual events, such as live-streamed mixology classes and virtual tasting sessions, can allow people from different parts of the world to join in the fun.

International Mezcalita Day is more than just a celebration of a delicious cocktail; it is a tribute to the cultural heritage and craftsmanship behind mezcal.

Whether you are a seasoned mezcal aficionado or new to this unique spirit, International Mezcalita Day offers the perfect opportunity to explore and enjoy the rich flavours and traditions of mezcal.
