The judging of the NZ Gin Awards (The Junipers) was held over three days earlier this month.
Now in it’s third year, the Junipers recognises excellence in gin – a category which has seen significant growth in recent years.
More than 150 gins were entered across 10 categories including: Classic Dry, Gin Liqueurs, Navy Strength and New Zealand Flavoured.
Head Judge and The Shout NZ spirits expert, Tash McGill, says the standard of gins has definitely lifted this year and the judges were pleased with the results.
“[It’s] exciting to see some new and exciting brands in the competition and some old favourites performing really well,” she says.
“A number of New Zealand brands are really starting to show their consistency and quality which is something we look for.”
The judging panel, led by McGill, included Jason Clark (Reefton), Alistair Walker (Caretaker), James Millar (Pernod Ricard), Soren Crabb (1919) and William McIntosh (retail).
