The growing popularity of cider in New Zealand shows absolutely no sign of slowing down and demand is certain to increase as summer arrives and people starting thinking about their holidays. Recognising the need for a lower alcohol cider, Monteith’s has launched Monteith’s Lightly Crushed Cider. At just 2.8% alcohol by volume, it is thought to be the first modern lower alcohol cider in the country.
Monteith’s are adamant that flavour has been not been compromised by dropping the alcohol saying it retains all the body and taste of full strength Monteith’s cider. The lower alcohol content is designed for those seeking the benefits of lower alcohol beverages. Having access to responsible but still tasty drinks will become even more important when the lower drink driving limits come into force in December.
Monteith’s ciders are made at Redwood Cider Company, New Zealand’s largest dedicated cidery. The Chief Cidermaker is David Sax, an ex-pat Englishman who recalls making cider with his parents in their farmhouse kitchen. He was an international winemaker before concentrating on making cider in sunny Nelson.
Sax says that as New Zealand approaches the summer season, cider is increasingly on the radar as Kiwis take their socialising outdoors. “.Cider is rapidly growing in popularity and as we head into summer, we saw a trend for moderation when Kiwis are choosing what to drink and we’ve created Monteith’s Lightly Crushed Cider as a result,” he said.
Monteith’s Lightly Crushed Cider is best enjoyed over ice. It is now available in four ($13.99 RRP) and 12 packs ($27.99 RRP).
