With winter well and truly here, the Monteith’s brewers have created a seasonal milk stout that evokes just a little nostalgia from the West Coast’s pioneering Celtic forefathers.
The new Monteith’s Brewer’s Series Velvet Stout is a voluptuous, full-bodied and warming beer with a generous touch of cocoa to balance this smooth classic. A generous mix of oats and chocolate roasted malts give the brew a smooth silky flavour with soft, rich bitterness.
Traditionally associated with nobility, velvet is a regal fabric, so the name pays homage to a traditional beer style which the team have re-created. Monteith’s Brewer’s Series Velvet Stout has a perfect balance of ingredients which come together to create a smooth velvet-like characteristic – hence its title: Velvet Stout.
Created by Monteith’s Head Brewer Tony Mercer, the Monteith’s Brewers Series Velvet Stout is a captivating brew that is superbly balanced and smooth.
“We challenged ourselves to create this brew, and the result is very special – worth every moment it took to create. This has to be one of the most balanced brews we’ve created. It’s silky, yet smooth and has just a touch of bitterness. For good measure we topped it off with a good ol’ dose of cocoa, to give it that extra something special. This new Velvet Stout is certainly my current favourite brew,” says Tony.
Monteith’s Brewer’s Series Velvet Stout is a full flavoured and deeply delicious 4.9% (ABV) dark beer, available in 500ml bottles, and is great matched with hearty fare on a cool winter night – especially either venison or a good steak.
