Four New Zealand wines have been named in the second edition of the World’s Best Sommeliers’ Selection.
The list was chosen by more than 30 of the most influential sommeliers in the hospitality industry who came together in the UK in January to assess an exceptional line-up, all vying for a place in the selection.
The panel was made up of sommeliers and beverage directors from four continents and 18 countries, each possessing an extensive knowledge and passion for wine, offering a diverse range of perspectives on quality and style.
They included sommeliers from acclaimed restaurants such as Disfrutar, Barcelona; Table by Bruno Verjus, Paris; Maido, Lima and Sézanne, Tokyo.
This year’s chosen selection features wines from 19 countries – spanning every colour, style and expression, from revered classics to bold new expressions, established icons to rising stars.
The New Zealand wines featured are:
- Brennan Central Otago Pinot Noir 2023
- Craggy Range Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023
- Craggy Range Te Muna Vineyard Martinborough Pinot Noir 2021
- Palliser Estate Single Vineyard Hua Nui Pinot Noir 2021
For producers, submitting wines into the tasting offers an opportunity to showcase their work to some of the most influential palates in the world.
“As a producer, you have the possibility in just one tasting to reach all parts of the world,” says Kevin Lu, Chief Sommelier at Logy, Taipei.
“Sommeliers act as storytellers, conveying the history, terroir, and craftsmanship behind each bottle.”
