State of Play – New Zealand’s first and only 100% zero alcohol brewery – has released its first brew, the State of Play IPA.
Founded by Grant Caunter, former Global Head of Craft Beer at Heineken based in Amsterdam, State of Play was born from a desire to put his wealth of knowledge and experience to provide New Zealanders with more zero alcohol beer options.
“In Europe, there was no issue, Grant was spoilt for choice with hoppy beers sans alcohol, but when the family made the move back to Aotearoa, the situation wasn’t quite the same,” said a statement from the brewery.
“Yes, there are a number of zero alcohol beers available in New Zealand, but what most of them lack is taste.”
State of Play says it produces its zero alcohol beers by brewing them without alcohol from the start, rather than removing it from a regular beer then adding flavours back in to compensate, as many of other brands do.
State of Play IPA is a balance of New Zealand hop bitterness, Canterbury malt backbone and less than 0.5% alcohol.
