Two New Zealand venues have been named in the Star Wine List of the Year International Open 2025.
The Star Wine List of the Year is a celebration of the great wine lists across the world and the teams behind them.
A total of 63 restaurants and wine bars across 16 countries, including the USA, Canada, Iceland, Mauritius, Serbia, NZ and South Africa, have been announced and prizes will be awarded in nine categories.
Winners in each category will receive a Gold Star, with the runners up receiving a Silver Star.
All Gold Star winners then automatically qualify for the Star Wine List of the Year International Final, which will be held once all regional competitions have been completed.
The jury for the Star Wine List of the Year International Open 2025 included four international wine experts:
– Nina Jensen – Second-Best Sommelier of the World, 2019 and 2023 (ASI)
– Kathrine Larsen-Robert – Master Sommelier
– Stefan Neumann – Master Sommelier
– Julie Dupouy-Young – four-time Best Sommelier in Ireland
New Zealand’s Cellar Door in Christchurch was named as a finalist in the “Best Short List” category, which recognises the best wine list with fewer than 200 listings.
And Toast & Oak in Queenstown was named in the “Best Newcomer List”, which recognises venues that has recently opened.
The Gold Stars will be awarded on April 22, with the overall winners announced in June.
