Pernod Ricard Winemakers Pacific has announced it is now using 100% renewable electricity.
The announcement came after a deal was signed with Meridian Energy to match Pernod Ricard Winemakers New Zealand’s annual electricity usage with 100% certified renewable energy.
The deal means that whilst Pernod Ricard New Zealand won’t be getting its electricity directly from Meridian’s renewable energy generation sites, the electricity it uses is matched on an annual basis with 100% renewable energy generated by Meridian.
All of Pernod Ricard’s operational and corporate sites across New Zealand and Australia are now using 100% renewable electricity, after Australia made the switch in 2019.
Brett McKinnon, Pernod Ricard Winemakers’ Chief Operations Officer, says being sustainable and responsible is an integral part of its New Zealand wine business and has been for many years. “Which makes this a natural next step for us,” he says.
“In alignment with our global ambition to create Good Times from a Good Place, our aim is to minimise our impact on the communities where we operate and preserve the environment for future generations to come.”
Pernod Ricard is the only wine and spirits company to be recognised by the United Nations as a Global Compact Lead.
