This Spring, Veuve Clicquot is bringing back the Veuve Clicquot Burger Challenge to encourage Kiwis to support their local restaurants and toast to the food and beverage pairing of burgers and Champagne.
Returning to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown for four weeks, some of New Zealand’s most iconic restaurants have been called on to craft a unique burger that pairs with Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label.
Champagne and burger lovers are encouraged to taste and vote for their favourite pairing, with the Maison crowning one establishment the Veuve Clicquot Burger Challenge champion.
Chefs from around the country have reimagined the pairing with their own unique twist, including a decadent fried chicken burger from Tobi (Auckland), a wagyu polpette from SUNDAYS (Queenstown), and an indulgent roast pork belly and fried king prawn burger with a crispy potato rosti and scampi bisque topped off with a tin of Caviar Mafia Premium Caviar from Parasol & Swing (Auckland).
The pairing was first made famous by a 1964 advertisement in The New Yorker of a Veuve Clicquot bottle next to an indulgent burger and is where Veuve Clicquot drew its inspiration from for the challenge.
Dean O’Rielly, Veuve Clicquot Champagne Ambassador says burgers and Champagne are a decadent duo.
“The strength, aromatic intensity, freshness and silkiness of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut is uniquely suited to cutting through the indulgent and robust flavours of a classic gourmet burger. The pairing creates a delicious contrast to create a balanced flavour.”
